ENG 220 Statics 3 credits
This course is a detailed study of forces, moments, couples, resultants of force systems and equilibrium analysis of rigid bodies utilizing freebody diagrams. Topics include analysis of forces acting on members of trusses, frames and machines; introduction and development of shear-force and bending moment diagrams; Coulomb friction; centroids; center of mass; moment of inertia; polar moment of inertia; product of inertia; virtual work; and hydrostatic pressure. Application to engineering structures and mechanical systems are strongly emphasized. (3 lecture hours)
