ITP 101 Introduction to Interpreting 3 credits

The purpose of this course is to introduce students who may be interested in becoming interpreters for the deaf or hard of hearing to the field of interpreting. Topics in the course include the history and evolution of the profession, terminology used in the profession, the Registry for Interpreters for the Deaf, Code of Ethics, and occupational settings and situations frequently used by interpreters and their clients. Students observe working interpreters and learn about referral agencies for interpreters. Students discuss various interpreting situations and how to implement problem-solving strategies.
