LIT 210 Survey of American Literature: Colonial Era to Civil War 3 credits

The first of a two-semester chronological survey of American literature, this course treats the period from 1607 to 1865. By study of earlier writers like Edwards and Franklin and 19th-century literary figures such as Poe, Hawthorne, Thoreau and Whitman, students explore developing cultural attitudes and the treatment of the American experience in literature.
