CHE 201 Organic Chemistry I 5 credits

This course offers a study of the compounds containing carbon: the classification by functional groups and the systematic naming of these compounds, the reactions they undergo and the factors directing these reactions, the methods of synthesizing organic molecules and the determination of molecular structure using chemical and instrumental methods. Hydrocarbons and organic halides are the compounds primarily studied. The laboratory includes the preparation, purification and identification of organic compounds.
