MCS 229 Advanced ICD-9-CM Coding 3 credits

This course teaches students methods to correctly and accurately code complicated diseases and injuries. Students learn to translate the physician's terms for patient diagnoses into a uniform coding system to ensure proper reporting to health care providers and health care payers. Topics include coding diseases of the digestive and genitourinary systems; the skin and musculoskeletal system; pregnancy and childbirth complications; circulatory system diseases and neoplastic diseases; and injuries, burns, poisoning and adverse effects of drugs.
