This course is a survey of African-American history from 1619 to the end of the Reconstruction in 1877. Topics include African backgrounds, the Atlantic slave trade, the origins of slavery and racial prejudice, southern plantation slavery, the slave personality, blacks during the Civil War and Reconstruction and the origins of urban ghettoes.
