This course examines Vietnamese history and culture including relationships with China, family values, religious beliefs and political and economic change over time. Wars with China, France and the United States are analyzed within the context of Vietnamese history. Emphasis is given to Vietnam today—its economy, governance, culture, society and external relations. (4 lecture hours)
