MAT 251 Mathematics for Elementary Teachers I 3 credits

This is the first course of a two-semester sequence. The sequence is a systematic study of the mathematics content basic to contemporary mathematics programs in the elementary schools. Topics in the first semester include NCTM standards, sets, logic, problem solving, systems of numeration, whole numbers, integers, rational numbers and real numbers, sentences in one and two variables, geometry, measurement, introduction to statistics, introduction to probability and the use of technology. (3 lecture hours)

Prerequisite: MAT 096 with a minimum grade of C or appropriate placement score AND one year of high school geometry or MAT 093 with a minimum grade of C
