LIT 120 Introduction to Children’s Literature 3 credits

This course examines children’s literature as rich and culturally complex works of fiction. Students enrolled in the course begin to understand historical development and social construction of literature for the young (pre-school to adolescent) as written by adults. Texts from a variety of literary forms and periods: fantasy; contemporary realism; historical realism; folk and fairy tales (oral culture and literary); poetry; and picture books are read and analyzed.
