JRN 101 Beginning Newswriting 3 credits
This course is designed primarily for students who wish to develop news writing skills. Utilizing Associated Press writing guidelines, news articles for print and online media are developed. Emphasis is placed on the form and organization of news stories, writing leads, conducting interviews and how to write a variety of stories utilizing effective research skills while under deadline pressure. Attention is given to reporters as professionals and citizens, followed by emphasis on the meaning of news, the right to know, the qualities of news and its evaluation and selection.
