COS 219 Principles of ICD-9-CM Coding 3 credits

This course teaches students basic methods to correctly and accurately code disease and injury. Students learn the importance of translating the physician's terms for patient diagnoses into a uniform coding system to ensure proper reporting to health care providers and health care payers. In addition, students are introduced to major nationwide medical insurance programs. Problem-solving and critical thinking skills are applied to office situations. R (3 lecture hours)
