Respiratory Care

Lincoln Land Community College, through a cooperative agreement with St. John's Hospital in Springfield, offers an Associate in General Education Degree in Respiratory Care. Respiratory therapists assist physicians in the prevention and treatment of diseases and disorders of the human respiratory system. Procedures performed by respiratory therapists include medical gas administration, aerosol and humidity therapy, ventilatory support, and pulmonary function testing. Patient assessment and knowledge of pharmacology, pathology and hemodynamic monitoring are also part of the respiratory therapist's practice. Career opportunities are abundant nationwide, including hospitals, neonatal intensive care units and home health.
