ADN 101 Nursing I 8 credits

This course is designed to introduce the conceptual framework of the Nursing Program and begin utilization of the nursing process in caring for clients with common health problems, including those in the preoperative period. Critical thinking skills are explored in relation to the nursing process. Communication principles, ethical/legal considerations, the teaching/learning process, the concept of change, cultural competency, the role of the nurse and beginning management concepts are introduced. All Functional Health Patterns are introduced with a focus on health perception-health management, nutrition-metabolism, sleep-rest, cognitive-perceptual, coping-stress tolerance and value-belief. (3 lecture hours and 13 laboratory hours)

Prerequisite: Admission to the Associate Degree Nursing Program; current certification as a nursing assistant in the state of Illinois or the equivalent

Corequisite: HLT 205 and MAT 105

Note: In addition to tuition, this course requires an additional tuition rate of $72 per credit hour AND may substitute MAT 104 and MAT 141 for MAT 105
