PCN 101 Practical Nursing I 8 credits

This course provides an introduction to the concept of Gordan's Functional Health Care patterns. Basic therapeutic communication skills and the nursing process are introduced. Consideration is given to the sociocultural and psychological as well as physical implications of illness in patients of various age groups with focus on the adult. Theory and clinical practice are correlated to prepare students to provide basic care to patients. R, W1, M1 (3 lecture hours and 10 laboratory hours)

Prerequisite: High school diploma or GED, ACT score of 17 or higher, placement test showing MAT 081 and MAT 082 ability and placement into COM 111, Certified Nursing Assistant, college GPA of 2.0 or better (if apply)

Corequisite: COM 111 and HLT 205
