Program Information:
- This program prepares students for an occupation in the professional field of medical radiography (X-ray technology).
- The first semester of this program begins in June.
- Career cluster includes registered radiographer in hospital, clinic or imaging center; registered nuclear medicine technologist; registered radiation therapist; registered diagnostic medical sonographer; clinical or didactic instructor; clinical supervisor and department administrator.
- This applied science program of study must be taken in its entirety to meet degree requirements.
- Students are involved in more than 1,500 contact hours of clinical experience during the two year program. National certification as a radiographer requires graduates to pass the examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. In addition, many states, including Illinois, require graduates to hold a license to practice medical radiography.
- All HLT courses must be completed prior to beginning second-year studies. Radiography students must earn a grade of C or higher in all courses with a prefix RAD or HLT. Students who earn below a C in any of these courses will be immediately dropped from the program. Students have the right to apply for readmission to the program based on program admissions committee action and space availability. In the case of readmission, credit will be allowed for courses previously completed with a grade of C or higher. Only one readmission is allowed.
- This program is conducted on a limited enrollment basis. Admission to this program involves additional procedures.
Admission to the Program:
Pre-Application Requirements: These requirements must be completed before applications can be considered.
- Attend an information session given on campus by the RAD director. The Associate Degree Radiography Program has limited enrollment and student selection criteria are covered in detail at the informational session. Dates of informational sessions may be obtained from the Admissions and Records Office, 786.2296.
- Send ACT test results to the LLCC Admissions and Records Office.
- ACT minimum composite score of 20, with no section less than 15 OR
Complete each non-program degree course with a grade of at least a C (COM 111, COM 112, HLT 109, HLT 205, HLT 206, POS 101)
Admission Requirements:
- Submit the LLCC admission application if not a current student.
- Take the LLCC placement test. Schedule by calling 786.2211 for test times and dates. See section in catalog called "Evaluation of Student Skills and Placement Testing" for details concerning students not needing to take placement test.
- Graduate from high school or have a GED certificate. Have high school transcripts sent to the LLCC Admissions and Records Office.
- Have a 2.5 GPA or better for all previous college courses. Have college transcripts sent to the LLCC Admissions and Records Office.
- Have completed with a grade of C or better:
- Two years of high school algebra OR one year of high school algebra and one year of high school geometry (or college equivalent; MAT 095)
- Two years high school science (biology, chemistry, or physics) or two of the following: College BIO 101, CHE 100, PHY 100. HLT 205, HLT 206 also count if taken prior to acceptance.
- Certification as a certified nursing assistant or emergency medical technician (basic) is strongly recommended but not required.
