Program Information:
- Designed for students interested in becoming licensed practical nurses.
- Completers are eligible to write the examination of the State Board as a licensed practical nurse.
- All nursing students must earn a grade of C or higher in all nursing and science courses. Students who fail to achieve a C in a nursing course may repeat the course one time. If a student fails to earn a C or above on the second attempt, they will be dismissed from the program. Failure to earn a C in a second nursing course even though the first course was successfully repeated is also grounds for dismissal. If a C grade is not earned in each semester of Anatomy and Physiology, the student cannot continue in the nursing program until the science is repeated and a grade of C or higher is earned.
- This applied science program of study must be taken in its entirety to meet degree requirements.

Admission to the Program:
- Submit the LLCC admission application.
- Be a high school graduate or have a GED and submit high school transcript or proof of GED.
- Have a composite ACT score of 17 or higher. Have the ACT test results sent to the LLCC Admissions and Records Office. If the test is needed, call 217.786.2211, the Office of Placement and Testing.
- Take the computerized Placement Test and obtain scores that demonstrate MAT 081 and 082 ability. If this ability is not demonstrated, the courses of MAT 081 and/or 082 must be successfully completed before entering the Practical Nurse program.
- Take the computerized Placement Test and obtain English scores that demonstrate placement in COM 111. If this ability is not demonstrated, the necessary remedial courses must be successfully completed before entering the Practical Nurse program.
- Be a current Certified Nursing Assistant.
- Submit the Nursing Application.
- Have a 2.0 GPA or better for all previous college courses.

- Give evidence of satisfactory physical and emotional health required of practitioners to carry out the tasks of this occupation.

Graduates of the LLCC Practical Nurse program interested in attending the LLCC Associate Degree Nursing Program must pass the National Council State Board Licensure examination for Practical Nurses. An applicant must meet all the prerequisites to enter the second year of the LLCC ADN program. There is an orientation program prior to entering the LLCC ADN program. All LLCC Practical Nurse graduates are encouraged to work in the role of practical nurse before attending the LLCC ADN program. A practical nurse graduate of LLCC must enter the ADN program no more than five years from their graduation or taek the LPN Bridge Course.
