Transfer Degree Requirements

ASSOCIATE IN ARTS (60 semester hours minimum)

Group I

Communications—9 semester hours

 

COM 111, COM 112 (with a grade of C or better in each course) are

 

required. SPE 101 is required.

Group II

Social Science—9 semester hours

 

Credit must be earned in at least three of the following areas and must be selected from the list of General Education Core Courses: political science, economics, sociology, psychology, history, (except western civilization), anthropology, geography (except physical geography).

 

Three semester hours must be earned in American Politics (POS 101) or State and Local Government (POS 201). Either of these courses fulfills the political science requirement for one of the three areas of Group II and the requirements of the Human Relations Act.

Group III

Humanities and fine arts—9 semester hours

 

A minimum of three semester hours must be earned in each of the following sub-groups and must be selected from the list of General Education Core Courses:

Literature, foreign language

 

B.

Art, theatre, music, humanities, film

 

C.

History of western civilization, philosophy

Group IV

Science and mathematics—11 semester hours

 

A.

Mathematics—3 semester hours

 

Three semester hours of credit must be selected from the list of General Education Core Courses

Science—8 semester hours

 

Credit must be earned in both the life science and the physical science areas, must be selected from the list of General Education Core Courses and must include one laboratory course.

 

Life science: Biological science

 

Physical science: Chemistry, physical geography, physics, physical science, geology

Group V

Electives—22 semester hours

 

To be selected from courses designed for transfer.

ASSOCIATE IN ARTS IN TEACHING (60 semester hours minimum)

Group I

Communications – 9 semester hours

Group II

Social sciences – 9 semester hours

 

Credit must be earned in at least three of the following areas and must be selected from the list of General Education Core Courses: political science, economics, sociology, psychology, history (except western civilization), anthropology, geography (except physical geography). Three semester hours must be earned in Introduction to American Politics (POS 101). This course fulfills the requirements of the Human Relations Act.

 

PSY 101 is recommended for Special Education and Early Childhood Education majors. Special Education majors may choose to select HIS 210.

 

Early Childhood Education students must take GEG 102.

Group III

Humanities and fine arts – 9 semester hours

 

Special Education majors must select one course from humanities, one course from fine arts and HUM 201.

 

Early Childhood Education majors must select ART 101, MUS 101 and THE 101.

Group IV

Science and mathematics – 14 hours

 

A.

Mathematics

 

Special Education majors must take MAT 251, MAT 252 and one other course.

 

Early Childhood Education majors must take MAT 104 and MAT 141.

 

B.

Science – 8 semester hours

 

Credit must be earned in both the life science and the physical science areas, must be selected from the list of General Education Core Courses and must include one laboratory course.

 

Early Childhood Education majors must take BIO 101 and choose between GEG 103 and GEO 101.

Group V

Electives – 19 hours

 

To be selected as recommended on the paradigm.

 

EDU 201 is required. Also required are successful completion of the Illinois Test of Basic Skills, initiation of standards-based professional portfolio and evidence of appropriate professional dispositions.

 

Special Education majors must take EDU 210, EDU 215, PSY 210 and PSY 220. Special Education majors must choose between EDU 220, EDU 230 and ECE 124.

 

Early Childhood Education majors must take ECE 121, ECE 122, ECE 123, ECE 124, ECE 125 ECE 202 and ECE 203.

ASSOCIATE IN ENGINEERING SCIENCE (64 semester hours minimum)

Group I

Communications—6 semester hours

 

COM 111 and COM 112 (with a grade of C or better in each course) are required.

Group II

Social Science—3 semester hours

 

Three semester hours must be earned in POS 101 (Introduction to American Politics) or POS 201 (State and Local Government). Engineering students are encouraged to take a second political science or an economics course.

Group III

Humanities and fine arts—3 semester hours

 

Credit may be earned in any of the following areas: literature, humanities, non-studio art or music, history of western civilization or philosophy.

Group IV

Science and mathematics—33-34 semester hours

 

CHE 101, PHY 201 and PHY 202 must be included.

 

MAT 131, MAT 132, MAT 233 and MAT 235 must be included.

 

MAT 161 or CSC 175 must be included.

Group V

Electives—19 semester hours

 

Select at least two engineering electives from ENG 101, ENG 220, ENG 221, ENG 240 and ENG 270.

 

Students should give careful consideration to their prospective transfer school (and engineering field) when selecting additional electives. Selecting from the following is recommended: BIO 101, CHE 102, CHE 201, CHE 202, CSC 176, ECO 131, MAT 215, MAT 242, PHY 203, SPE 101, humanities or social science elective.

ASSOCIATE IN FINE ARTS (62 semester hours minimum)

Group I

Communications—9 semester hours

 

COM 111, COM 112 (with a grade of C or better in each course) are

 

required. SPE 101 is required.

Group II

Social sciences—3-6 semester hours

 

Three semester hours must be earned in either POS 101 or POS 201.

 

Art majors must take an additional three hour course.

Group III

Humanities and fine arts—6 semester hours

C.

History of western civilization, philosophy

 

A minimum of three semester hours must be earned in each of two of the above sub-groups.

Group IV

Science and mathematics—10-11 semester hours

B.

Science—7-8 semester hours

 

Credit must be earned in both the life science and the physical science areas, must be selected from the list of General Education Core Courses and must include one laboratory course.

Physical science: Astronomy, chemistry, geography (except GEG 102), physics, physical science, geology

Group V

Electives—29-32 semester hours to be selected as appropriate from art or music courses designed for transfer.

 

Students are advised that course requirements in music and art programs at senior institutions vary. Thus students must seek the advice of academic advisors and appropriate faculty when making course selections.
